How gravel depth changes the quantity you need

For gravel projects, depth is easy to underestimate because a small change applies across the entire area. This calculator makes that relationship explicit by turning length, width and depth into volume and then converting volume to estimated weight.

Doubling depth doubles material

For the same area, a 4-inch layer contains twice the volume of a 2-inch layer. That makes depth one of the most important assumptions to verify before ordering.

Use one calculator run per layer

If a project uses different materials for a base and top layer, calculate each layer separately. Different materials may also use different density assumptions.

Check supplier units before ordering

Some suppliers quote by ton, others by cubic yard, and local markets may use metric tonnes or cubic metres. PrepMyBuild can display either measurement system.
